Breast Fellowship Program

LSCRF supports specialized training in the detection and treatment of breast cancer for a number of specialties including surgical oncology, medical oncology and breast imaging. After completing their training, many of the physicians go on to become leaders in breast programs around the country. By supporting these programs, it ensures that patients everywhere have access to physicians with specialized training in the treatment of breast cancer.

Program Description:
The modern management of breast disease requires an in-depth knowledge of not only surgery, but breast imaging, image direct biopsy techniques, pathology, radiation oncology, and medical oncology. This fellowship is designed to enhance the basic knowledge of the management of breast disease acquired by a general surgical trainee, particularly in the non-surgical disciplines. Residents in this program will gain advanced knowledge and increased level of skill in the management of breast disease in order to assume a leadership role in teaching and research in the field.

Breast Medical Oncology Fellowship

Program Description:
The Division of Hematology/Oncology of Northwestern University and Northwestern Memorial Hospital trains five fellows each year in Hematology and Medical Oncology. The program’s goal is to develop leaders in the field of clinical and basic breast cancer research. Each year, several of our fellows express a particular interest in breast cancer, and the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation can support the development of these trainees into effective researchers.

Breast and Women’s Imaging Fellowship

Program Description:
The Department of Radiology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, in conjunction with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, offers one-year fellowship positions in breast and women’s imaging at the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center. Fellows receive training in mammography, breast ultrasound, breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and all image-guided interventional techniques. Ongoing research projects, with opportunities for participation, include full-field digital mammography, breast ultrasound screening, and MRI. Rotations in breast pathology, breast surgery, and radiation oncology will be provided to ensure that the fellows gain experience in these three closely related specialties.
